Experience
At Dunsmuir Law, we have practiced for over seventeen years. We believe that experience, sound judgement, and keen legal knowledge are essential to obtaining meaningful results for the hardworking people of New Brunswick. At Dunsmuir Law, we pride ourselves on practical, meaningful, and effective results.
Trust
The team at Dunsmuir Law is committed to full cost transparency. You will always receive an advanced, realistic estimate and we will not exceed this amount during our working relationship.
To be specific, we deliver our Family Law services on a value based pricing basis, which is essentially a flat fee.
A value based pricing strategy does not centre around a lawyer’s hourly rate for their time. We provide a free initial consultation for all legal matters and will listen, evaluate, explain, and advise – before you have any obligation to us. Because of our consultation, if you decide to retain us to provide legal services to you it will be at that point that you incur obligation – which is always based on the terms of our written agreement with you.
Guaranteed.
Service
At Dunsmuir Law, we believe in prompt service. Whether via email correspondence, preparing documents, filings, or our advice. You have our commitment to do what we say we will do when we say we will do it.
This is the hallmark of professionalism, and our promise to you.
Value
At Dunsmuir Law, we pride ourselves on using our knowledge and experience to provide meaningful and cost-effective legal services.
We recognize that the cost of legal services should be based on such factors as the importance of the matter in question, the degree of complexity, the results actually achieved, and the value to you – not just billable hours.
At Dunsmuir Law, our promise to you is that our accounts will always reflect only the work to be done and will always be reasonable, proportionate, and above all, fair.
Value Based Pricing
Historically, the cost of legal services has been calculated by the lawyer’s hourly rate. Billable services include telephone calls, letters, document preparation, and court attendance.
In a law firm setting, these services can be executed by many individuals who work on a client matter. This includes lawyers, law students, and paralegals. These individuals may have differing rates, but the principle is the same.
Value Based Pricing Strategy
Value based pricing has been described as: “… a nexus between the client’s perception of the value they have received and the fee they have been charged. In other words, the practitioner considers that they have been properly remunerated and the client considers that they have received advice and service at a price they consider to be fair. The concept need be no more complex than that.”
Arrival at this nexus requires the balancing of a lawyer or law firm’s need to ensure a return on the investment of their time and expertise, while the client needs to know that they are getting value for the money based on their choice of lawyer.
Lawyers the world over recognize that flexible billing approaches are necessary and beneficial to all parties involved.
Value Based Pricing Example
In the end, the approach requires little more than the client and lawyer defining the scope of work and agreeing on the value that will be paid for said work.
The agreed upon flat fee is normally paid in advance at the outset of the retainer agreement. Everyone benefits – the lawyer receives immediate payment for the value of their services and the client has the certainty of fair legal representation and advice.
Dunsmuir Law offers a myriad of services on a value based pricing model, including Family Law. An initial consultation to discuss whether this method of billing is appropriate for your legal matter can be booked through this website or by contacting our offices.
